Dear Daughters,
We are busy in Buffalo getting ready for your arrival in October for the 108th National Convention. There are many activities planned and we are very excited to be your hosts. Take a look over the information about the schedule of events, and please do not hesitate to contact me, or anyone from Court 5, if you have any questions. 2008 Convention News
The Knights & Daughters or Court 5 are hard at work to make sure that all will be ready when the other Courts arrive. We had a wonderful time in Detroit, and though they “raised the bar” we’re up to the challenge.
The National Convention will be held at the Hyatt Regency in the heart of Buffalo; just a stones throw from the Irish Famine Memorial, Navel Park, and waterfront. Not only is Court 5 getting ready, but the Hyatt is getting ready too! The Hotel is currently undergoing a 12 Million dollar renovation. Everything from top to bottom is being redone, and it promises to be ready when our guests arrive.
Thursday, October 9, 2008 – Sunday, October 12 2008
Registration will begin on Thursday, October 9 at 2:00 pm for our "Early Bird" conventioneers. We have planned a trip to the Irish Classical Theater for Thursday evening to see "Star Quality", a Noel Coward comedy. The curtain will rise at 7:30 pm and the tickets are $26/person. Registration will continue on Friday morning from 9 am - 10 am and again on Saturday from 9 am-10 am. The convention will officially open with meeting for both the Knights of Equity and Daughters of Erin at 10 am Friday. A joint luncheon will follow at noon. After lunch, you will have a choice of the Friday afternoon activity: the Multi Stop trip, which will take us to the Irish Famine memorial, the Botanical Gardens, and Fr. Baker's shrine in Our Lady of Victory Basillica OR the Naval and Serviceman's Park, with the Irish Famine Memorial and the Erie Canal Harbor Historical Site just a short walk away. On Friday evening, we will enjoy a GALA at the Buffalo Irish Center, complete with traditional Irish music and ceili dancers. Round trip buses will take us to and from the center, which is about a 5 minute ride. We will have enough time to browse the Tara Shoppe across the street from the Irish Center. Saturday morning meetings will be held at 10 am followed by a luncheon in the hospitality room. Mass will be held at the hotel at 5:00 pm followed at 6:00 pm by an evening of dining and dancing honoring our new National Officers.
Room Rates will be $99.00/night and it is very important to remember that if you book through the Knights of Court 5 and send reservation and payment to them by 09/01/08, you will save the room tax of 13.75%!!! That extra $41 goes a long way toward your convention fee, travel expenses, or gifts from the Tara Shoppe!
