Scholarships from the Knights
TINE MONA "COLD, COLD THIS THOUSAND YEARS - YET STILL ON MANY A TIME - STRAINED PAGE YOU PRIDE, YOUR TRUTH, YOUR DAUNTLESS WILL BURNS ON FROM AGE TO AGE".... From Irish Folklore
Knights of Equity Memorial Scholarship
On September 17, 1924 the Knights of Equity Memorial Scholarship Commission began. Then, on October 30, 1924, the Michigan Court #6 of the Knights of Equity, a National Irish Organization, established, in conjunction with the University of Detroit, an ongoing Memorial Scholarship for the benefit of the Knights of Equity members, their heirs, and other persons of Irish heritage. Today we take this occasion, the first of its kind, to recognize those first sixty years.
Thru the scholarship over six hundred men and women have been able to avail themselves of the University's excellent teaching. As a result our nation, religious vocations, and professional fields have benefited. All this because an organization saw a need, an opportunity, and with the University were able to provide the wherewithal to help those who would follow.
The dollar value of the scholarships, thus far, is set at over one million dollars. So today we give tribute and express our deep appreciation to everyone who worked so long to keep open this path to education and learning.
